A review of Comox Kite Repair - Let me start by saying that I have been the head kite instructor and the only kite repair man for an entire Caribbean country at one point. But when my 7m Bandit4 was shredded after the right side of my bar got hung up on a buoy in a gusty 35 knots, I just didn't trust myself to sew the kite back together well enough to withstand high-wind punishment. The two major kite repair companies in the US wanted upwards of 50% of the cost of the kite do the job. So my kite sat for months, as I watched 40 knot days go by. By word of mouth only, I heard of an engineer who started a kite repair business in Comox, who knows his $#![

I em
ailed Greg at CKR and he gave me a quote that was fair and made it well worth saving the kite. Greg kept me in the loop with detailed repair options, status updates and pictures. His decades of experience as an engineer, and in sail repair, allows him use everything, microscopes, micrometers, and theoretical formulas along with standard kite repair materials to get to the root of kite failures and fix it properly. He uses testing methods in order to self-evaluate his repair techniques, which gave me confidence my kite would be solid.

My 7m Bandit4 now looks great and flies as perfectly balanced as when it was new. It's almost impossible to see where it was damaged. Plus the repair came with a contract that guarantees the repair for the life of the kite, which along with seeing him work in his 'lab,' gives me the peace of mind to boost and loop in gale force winds.

Greg's repairs are light, strong, aesthetically pleasing and most importantly, they don't affect the kite's flight characteristics. So even if you think you can handle repairs yourself, save the hassles and get it done right - this guy knows his $#[! !

Sent in 3 kites for repair, 2 leading edge blow-outs for fabric repair and bladder welding, and the third with a canopy tear and torn bridle attachment. Work was completed fast, fabric repairs look great, bladders holding air, and the cost was very reasonable. CKR gets top marks for excellent service and a professional attitude!

Comox Kite Repair definitely went over and above to make the repair job un-noticeable. I had a large F-shaped tear across the main canopy, a tear in the leading edge and a burst bladder, but somehow Greg managed to fix it so that I can hardly even tell where the original tear was. Thanks for the quick turn-around. I hardly even missed a wind day!

Hey Greg - Thanks so much for the speedy turn around on the bladder and kite repair! The 9M looks great. It was super that you were able to fix the bladder and I didn't have to replace it as I would rather spend that money on getting more kites. Keep up the great work, as I'll probably need your services again!

If you need to get back on the water fast , Greg is your man!  I had 2 kites to fix from a trip to Maui this summer, and I could not be happier with the results. There was quick turn-around, and almost invisible repairs. He is thorough in his work, and it shows at the end when everything is patched and taken care of.
